Seeking a board certified or truly board eligible Physician Assistant Emergency Medicine
ASAP-ongoing
Primarily Night coverage (7p-7a) to cover 4-6 shifts per month but will occasionally need all shifts listed
M-S | 7a-7p; 9a-9p; 7p-7a
Trauma Level Designation: Level III
Minimum # Years Experience: 2
Active PA License – Required
PAs ONLY, job cannot accept NPs
ATLS – Not Required
ACLS, BLS, PALS - must be through AHA or Red Cross – Required
Stroke Certified – Required
Must be local enough to drive in
May be required to help perform Triage/Tech responsibilities
NIHSS must be kept current annually as well as Stroke CME. Annual
EMTALA education is also mandatory and will be sent out to the provider by the ED Administrative Assistant
Experience should be Emergency Department experience
No Call
Candidates Typical Day: Wide variety of ED patients with a focus on lower acuity patients. See patients, perform some administrative tasks (radiology review, blood work review when needed although generally
performed by employed staff)
Will not work solo
EMR / Charting: Cerner
Typically 1-2 patients/hour per provider per shift
The MD shifts run 3p-1a, 5p-3a and 9p-7a so a physician is always present at night
Specialties Onsite: There is a trauma service in hospital 24/7 that also covers acute care general surgery consults 24/7
Specialties on Call: Neurology, Ophthalmology, Cardiology with cath lab, OBGYN, Orthopedics, Endocrinology, Plastics, GI, Hematology/Oncology, CT surgery, Intensivist, Nephrology, Neurosurgery, Pediatric hospitalist (minor pediatric admissions), Podiatry, thoracic surgery, Vascular. Also 24/7 crisis counselors in ED who evaluate psych patients
Typical Cases Seen: I and D's, laceration repairs
PAs are expected to see any patient complaint but are not expected to perform invasive procedures such as central lines, intubation, lumbar puncture. There aren't any patients that the APP isn't "allowed" to see but in general the attending will see the critically ill patients and evaluate STEMI/Stroke patients while the PA is expected to see the minor complaint patients and perform minor procedures including lacerations/I&D etc
